DIY enthusiasts could face tighter regulations

Homeowners putting in new fireplaces or hanging large mirrors could face fines for not following building regulations. Housing Secretary Sajid Javid has confirmed he is considering expanding the rules after being told that young children are being killed by faulty workmanship, following cases where they had been crushed by fireplaces in their homes. Any new regime could affect DIY enthusiasts as well as tradesmen and fireplace makers.
