Balcone – coolest coffee shop in Hackney

One of the best things about living in East London are the incredible independent shops and restaurants. My friend Hassan set up Balcone on Victoria Park Road earlier this year and it’s already a huge success.
I’m always zipping around East London, whether I’m selling property in Canary Wharf, meeting developers in Clapton or selling off-plan from my own office in Shoreditch. I stopped off for coffee in Victoria Park Road, on my way to a valuation, and discovered Balcone.
Balcone is one of those coffee shops that is uniquely East End. Hassan sells coffee during the day, wine during the evening, and food all the time.
Hassan offers both healthy food and an opportunity for indulgence to the people of East London. Some of his food is vegetarian, some is vegan, some is super-healthy for people who love the world and some is pure indulgence for those who need a pick-me-up. It’s all responsibly sourced and freshly made every day.
An independent business itself, Balcone loves supporting small suppliers too. All the milk comes from the Estate Dairy, whose cows graze in Somerset pastures and make the most beautiful milk the south of England can offer – latte, anyone?
Cakes are made by East London’s finest independent bakery, Galeta, who produce cakes, cookies and tarts made from 100% natural ingredients.
Located in a converted shop, Balcone is just plain cool. The décor is neutral-but-not, with amazing tactile furniture, smooth stainless steel surfaces and a bit of exposed brickwork (love a bit of exposed brickwork!). There’s outdoor seating in the garden area too, and it’s sure to be packed out on sunny days.
I love places like this in the East End. It’s a really diverse area anyway, and fantastic coffee shops like Balcone all help make E9 one of the best places to live in London. Pop in and buy a coffee from Hassan and the team today – they’d love to see you.
