All Points East – free activities in East London during May half term

Festival season has started! People in the East End have their very own festival right on their doorsteps. No camping, no mud (!), just a great atmosphere and some great music. All Points East takes place in Victoria Park between Saturday 24 May and Sunday 2 June 2019. Day tickets are still available to buy – you could see some great bands performing at the end of your street, including the Chemical Brothers, the Strokes and Mumford and Sons.
All Points East is also keenly aware that it’s slap bang in the middle of Hackney where countless East Enders live, and is hosting a festival during May half term. To give something back to their community, the festival organisers are staging a lot of FREE events between Monday 27 May and Thursday 30 May as part of their In The Neighbourhood initiative. Here are my top picks:
Films and culture
The North Stage Outdoor Cinema is showing a fun mix of newly released films and family classics, with recent productions like Mary Poppins Returns as well as old favourites like E.T. and Back to the Future. There’s also art, music and poetry in the Rich Mix Play-House.
Burn off some half term energy!
If you fancy something a bit more active, why not pop along to one of the drop-in dance workshop run by Tony Lane of Global Village Dance. Salsa, ballroom, lindy-hop, tango and more await you in the Tower Hamlets Dance Tent.
There are also children’s circus workshops, suitable for the over-sevens, as well as drop-in yoga sessions for old and young with More Yoga, and tennis with help from Tower Hamlets’ experienced coaches.
Go green
Environment education charity ecoACTIVE are running upcycling and recycling workshops, as well as sharing their knowledge about greener living and climate change. They’re in the kids’ area every day – just go along and find out what little changes you could be making for the better.
E3 – one of the best places to live in London
I’m thrilled that All Points East are providing another great range of free activities for the people of East London – just another reason why E3 is such a fantastic place to live.
Tickets for the music gigs, and full information and timings for all the All Points East events can all be found on their website – click here to find out more.
See you there!
