Why move from London to Hertfordshire?

Over the twenty years I’ve worked in the South East property market, I’ve noticed a strong trend in people moving both into and out of London. London’s an amazing city, but there comes a time in many people’s lives when they want a larger place to live, maybe with some outdoor space too. This might be because they want to start a family, or they might just long for the peace and quiet of country life.
As you can imagine, this trend is particularly prevalent now, both because of lockdown and because more of us are working from home.
Why move to Hertfordshire?
I grew up in Hertfordshire and I know it well. It’s an ideal county to move to when you want to live in the country but work in the city.
Hertfordshire has many market towns, surrounded by picturesque villages. The towns offer a great combination of practical amenities like supermarkets and libraries, as well as a fantastic community of independent businesses like artisan bakeries and some of my favourite pubs. The villages offer a slower pace of life with town facilities never far away.
The majority of primary and secondary schools in the Hertfordshire/Essex borders are rated Good or Outstanding by Ofsted. Schools play an important part in the community. Distances from home to school are often short and children can walk or cycle to school independently – a great way to build trust and self-reliance.
Commuting from Hertfordshire to London
London is an easy commute from Hertfordshire. Trains go from all the major towns to either Liverpool Street, Tottenham Hale or King’s Cross. Journey times are roughly half an hour. Wherever you live, there is always a station within walking, cycling or driving distance.
What are house prices like in Hertfordshire? How far will my money go?
Selling your flat in London is likely to bring you between £500,000 and £850,000. In Hertfordshire or Essex, this could get you anything from a high-quality flat in one of the town centres to a four- or five- bedroom family house.
I don’t know the home counties at all! Where should I start?
Come and spend a day with one of our team in Hertfordshire. We’ll show you round, help you get a feel for the different communities in the different towns and help you decide between town and village life. You’ll see the local sights and start to understand how residents make the most of their towns and villages. And if you can imagine yourself moving to one of Hertfordshire or Essex’s towns, we can book in some viewings and get the ball rolling.
